******Candace Jackson

About the Author
Candace Jackson was born and raised in the heart of the Indiana Amish in northern Indiana. Ms. Jackson has fond childhood memories of frequently being read to as a child. Her parents always encouraged their four children to read books. Her family also loved history and valued culture. They often traveled the 150 miles to Chicago to visit museums. Ms. Jackson describes herself as a 'museum nut'.

After pursuing a degree in Marketing, she moved to Hawaii and then to San Francisco where she met and married her husband, John, in 1976. The Jackson's now live in Agoura Hills, California and have three teenage children. Ms. Jackson, along with a friend wrote a screenplay in 1978, which gave her the bug to further pursue a career in writing. In 1994 Ms. Jackson was asked to be the editor of a trade newsletter called "800 Pizza Talk", which included her column, Advice from Mama Mozzarella.

However, it was her abiding love of history that led her to start the Museum Mania™ Treasure Hunts. In order to interest and entice her children and others, Ms. Jackson started writing this scavenger hunt type of educational game at various Southern California museums and historical landmarks. She wanted to help educate children, have them stay occupied, and entertained during their visits to museums.

In 1996 Ms. Jackson was asked by the California Sesquicentennial to write treasure hunts for the museum exhibits to be held at the California State Fair in September of 1998-2000. In January of 1997, Ms. Jackson was commissioned by the San Bernardino County Libraries to write a treasure hunt for their library system. This treasure hunt is a kick-off for San Bernardino Counties' Sesquicentennial activities. This project led Ms. Jackson to her present library literacy series.

Ms. Jackson's library literacy series took on a personal meaning in the spring of 1997.  She was told two weeks before school ended that her 18 year-old, learning disabled son might not be able to graduate from high school. He had failed to pass the library portion of his reading proficiency test, not once, but twice. She immediately had him read her book that was near completion and had him take one of the hands-on treasure hunts to his local library to complete. He passed his test and graduated.

Ms. Jackson also illustrates her own books and teaches her art of computer cartoon development to teachers and students.  Ms. Jackson is available for onsite staff and student development along with author signings.
